Thermal Model Approach to the YASA Machine for In-Wheel Traction Applications

The axial-flux permanent magnet (AFPM) machines with yokeless and segmented armature (YASA) topology are suitable for in-wheel traction systems due to the high power density efficiency. To guarantee reliable operation of YASA machines, an accurate thermal analysis should be undertaken in detail during electrical machine design phase. technical contribution this paper is establish a detailed model by lumped parameter network (LPTN) method. Compared computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method finite element (FE) method, LPTN can obtain temperature distribution low time consumption. Firstly, each component constructed details. Secondly, losses obtained electromagnetic FE analysis. Then, calculated loss information. Finally, prototype manufactured its under different operating conditions tested TT-K-30 thermocouple sensors. experimental data matches results well.
